How to Install Windows 7/8/10/11 on a Flashdisk
How to install Windows 7/8/10/11 on a Flashdisk is not as difficult as we imagine, in just a matter of minutes Windows can be installed on a Flashdisk and run on another computer.
I have tried this method to install and run Windows 7 on a flash disk, and it is not difficult. Moreover, with the help of sophisticated software called WinToUSB.
This software made by EasyUEFI has always been a favorite for computer activities related to operating systems, especially Windows.
WinToUSB is considered the best software in its class compared to other similar software. Even though it is classified as free software which is very useful for installing Windows on a Flashdisk, it turns out that WinToUSB can also duplicate the Windows operating system (Clone) provided that the Flashdisk has sufficient storage capacity.
PREPARATION:
a.) USB Flashdisk with a capacity of 32 GB or more
b.) Windows 7/8/10/11 ISO file (32bit or 64bit)
c.) WinToUSB software (download on the official WinToUSB website)
How to Install Windows 7/8/10/11 on a Flashdisk
1. Plug your flash disk into your PC or laptop.
IMPORTANT: Back up all files on the Flashdisk before using WinToUSB, because this way the Flashdisk will be completely formatted.
2. Open the WinToUSB software then select the Windows ISO file and select the Flashdisk as the storage target.
INFO: It is recommended to use a USB 3.0 port on a computer or laptop and a flash disk that supports USB 3.0 ports.
4. Wait a few moments until the installation process is complete.
5. Once finished, now you restart your PC or laptop, and when booting starts, use HotKey to enter the boot selector and select the flash disk as the drive to boot the operating system.
The first time you run Windows on a flash disk, you will be asked to do the initial Windows settings, such as installing Windows for the first time. Just follow all the steps on the screen until Windows is installed and goes to the Home screen.
IMPORTANT: I have tried this method myself to install Windows 7 on a 16GB flash disk using the free version of the WinToUSB software. Don’t try to install it on a flash disk that is less than 16GB, because there is a possibility that an error or bad sector will occur on the flash disk that is insufficient during the installation process. It is highly recommended to use a 32GB Flash disk or more.
The image above is what the Flashdisk folder looks like when I look at Windows 10 installed on the computer’s hard disk.
It is clear that on the Flashdisk there are several files and folders and the largest is the WinToUSB.VHD file because this file is used to run Windows 7 on the Flashdisk.
Inside the file, there are partitions and the entire contents of the Windows 7 operating system, including drivers, software, settings, and stored data.
The WinToUSB.VHD file looks like it almost fills the entire capacity of the USB because you have to create a C:\ partition on the flash disk, which has 7GB of free space in the partition. So, this is common, and don’t assume that the Flashdisk is full because actually in the WinToUSB.VHD file there is still 7GB of free space which can be used to store files and data if you are using Windows 7 from a Flashdisk.
So, the picture above is when I used Windows 7 from a Flashdisk, you can see that the C:\ partition still has free space, even though the Flashdisk looks full.
Windows installed on a flash disk can be used on any PC or laptop, so it is very efficient to carry around.
Even so, there are still drawbacks if you install Windows on a Flash disk. The most common problems that occur are the Display Adapter Driver and WiFi Driver, you must use a LAN to surf the internet when running Windows on a Flashdisk.
It’s easy, right?
This method is different from making it bootable on a flash disk because it installs the full operating system on the flash disk, not just the Live version but is installed and can save data and system settings.
